I've been meaning to tell you guys something for a few weeks now.

The past month I was struggling a bit mentally. My days had all started to feel the same Wake up, work, gym, read, sleep. Repeat.

Nothing was wrong. That's the weird part. Nothing was wrong at all.

But everything felt gray, and the weeks were going by way too fast. That's the part that actually scared me.

One night I caught myself. In about an hour I was looking at flights I don't need to take, and thinking about doing something chemical just to shake my head loose and FEEL something.

Two different ways to bail.

I almost didn't notice. Then I did, and I had to ask what I was trying to get away from.

Here's what I came up with.

Coasting isn't not living. Coasting is avoiding risk.

Think about the best weeks you've ever had. I'd bet in every single one of them, something could have gone wrong. You said the thing you weren't sure about. You walked up to someone who could have shot you down. You bet on something.

Feeling alive and having something on the line are the same thing. You don't get one without the other.

So a week where nothing can go wrong is also a week where nothing means anything.

That was the trade I was making. I just didn't know I was making it.

And I know when it started. Shortly after a relationship of mine ended. The first one where I was actually vulnerable and intentional with somebody instead of just going along with it.

I was spending every day at home in New Jersey, questioning my self-worth, and coasting through work while not feeling motivated to grow anymore or go out and socialize. Every day was becoming the same.

So the gray wasn't random. If every day is the same, nothing can get taken from you. The boredom was protecting me. The gray was what it cost.

Now here's the part I didn't expect.

Last week I started going on dates again. One of them was a girl from Tinder, and the date was the first time we'd ever met.

I've never really done that. I meet girls out in real life, at a festival or through friends, where you're just talking, and it turns into something. This one was planned. We both showed up on purpose.

I was more nervous for that than I've been in a long time. Which is funny, considering what I do.

Then I got there and it was easy.

And the rest of the week, the gray feeling started lifting almost right away.

I didn't fix my sleep. I didn't find some new morning routine. Nothing about my discipline changed. The only thing that changed is that I started doing things that could go badly again.

That's when it clicked. The gray was never the problem. The gray was the bill for a life I had made completely safe.

And this is the part I want you to sit with.

Playing it safe doesn't feel like losing. That's what makes it so dangerous. It just feels like nothing.

Nobody notices the cost, because there's no moment where it hurts. You just slowly stop feeling like yourself.

A lot of guys reading this are in it right now and calling it something better. Focusing. Locking in. Healing. Grinding.

Sometimes that's real. But sometimes a quiet month where nothing can hurt you is just hiding with a better name on it.

One more thing that surprised me.

I'm good with people when I travel. Open, funny, easy. At home it's ten times harder, and I always figured that meant something was off about home.

It's not. When you're a stranger, talking to people is free. Nobody knows you, nothing follows you, and you're gone in four days. At home, people stay. Being open actually costs you something..

So the thing I never really practiced is being open where I actually live.

Here's what I want you to do this week. One thing with something on the line, right where you are, not somewhere you're planning to fly to. Something that could actually not work.

Then hit reply and tell me what yours is.

And if you sit there and can't think of one single thing in your life right now that could go wrong, tell me that instead. That's the more honest answer, and honestly it's the one I want to hear.
