I see somebody I kind of know at the grocery store, and I will do everything in my power to avoid them.

Turn the cart around. Become very interested in the pasta. Fake phone call if it gets bad.

And I approach strangers for a living.

I've walked up to thousands of girls. On camera. Middle of the day with people watching.

But small talk with a guy I met twice at a party? I'd rather leave without the groceries.

A few months back I was at an event in Vegas with some of the biggest creators in the world, and I didn't want to meet a single one of them. I hung out with my friends and went home.

For a long time that felt like a contradiction. It isn't.

Confidence and being an extrovert are two different things, and almost nobody separates them.

Being an extrovert is about what fills you up. Some guys leave a loud party charged. I leave one drained and ready to be by myself. That's not a flaw, it's just how I'm built, and it doesn't really change.

Here's where this actually matters for you.

A lot of quiet guys have already counted themselves out. "I'm not a people person." "I'm just not built like that." "That's not really me."

It sounds like self-awareness. It isn't. It's a way to lose without ever having to try, because if it's your personality, then it was never your fault.

But you have to be honest with yourself about which one you're doing.

Not wanting to make small talk with some guy at the grocery store is a preference. That's fine. Keep it.

Not walking up to the girl you actually want is fear. It just dresses up like a preference.

Those are not the same thing, and you know exactly which one you're doing.

So here's REAL confidence:

You don't need to become loud. You don't need to love the party or get good at talking about nothing.

You need to do THE THING when the moment calls for it. It's scary, and you do it anyway.

Do or say THE THING. Walk over. Ask.

Then go home, get in bed, hibernate, and read your book. That's allowed. That was always allowed.

That's not your weakness. That's your peace.

This week, find one moment where the scary thing is also the thing you actually want. Take action… Then leave early if you want. What matters is that you did THE THING.

Reply and tell me THE THING you've been telling yourself you're just not built for. I read every one.
